By Tosin Omojola –
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, on Sunday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, defeated Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri 2-1 to secure their first victory of the 2025/26 season.
The victory, however, did not come easy, as they had to fight hard to hold on after the visitors reduced the deficit in the second half, having trailed 0-2 at the break.
Skipper Ghali Falke had given the Stars a seventh-minute lead before Sodiq Ibrahim doubled the advantage, handing the hosts a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Kun Khalifat put Shooting Stars’ faithful on the edge of their seats as they pulled a goal back through Ezeoye with 15 minutes left on the clock. However, they were prevented from causing further damage by the hosts, who held on to win the matchday five encounter.
Bayelsa United suffered a second straight home defeat as they lost 1-2 to Nasarawa United of Lafia. The Yenagoa side had previously suffered a home loss at the hands of Enyimba last weekend.
Elsewhere, Niger Tornadoes beat Ikorodu City 4-2, Enyimba rallied to a 3-2 victory over hard-fighting Bendel Insurance in Aba, while El-Kanemi Warriors recorded a 1-0 triumph over visiting Warri Wolves.
