NPFL directs Shooting Stars to relocate home matches over pitch issues

By Tosin Omojola –
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has ordered Ibadan-based Shooting Stars (3SC) to shift its home matches from the Lekan Salami Stadium.
The league conveyed the directive to the team through a letter dated 30 January 2026, signed by its Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, and addressed to the chairman of the club.
The NPFL stated that the decision to move 3SC out of their traditional home ground was due to the current state of the Lekan Salami Stadium pitch, which is unsuitable for hosting league matches.
According to the league, the decision was necessary because the venue does not meet the standards required for broadcast and television rights agreements, owing to the poor condition of its turf.
The board offered the Ibadan-based club a choice between the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta or the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos as their alternative home ground.
Shooting Stars were given until Monday, 2 February 2026, to communicate their choice to the league board, failing which the board will allocate a venue for the team.
