NFF moves Flamingos, Senegal World Cup qualifier to Abeokuta

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved a request by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to change the venue of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup third-round, first-leg qualifying match between Nigeria and Senegal, scheduled for Saturday, 7 February 2026.

NFF’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David, confirmed that the match will now be played at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

She explained that the request for a change of venue was due to the deteriorating state of the pitch at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, which had earlier been approved for the match and had hosted the Falconets’ second-round, second-leg clash with Rwanda U20 in September last year.

As a result, the two-time FIFA World silver-medallists, who have been training in Ibadan ahead of the match, are expected to relocate to Abeokuta in a few days to familiarise themselves with the MKO Abiola Sports Complex turf.

The Falconets defeated Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate to advance to the third round of the African qualification series.

The winner of the Nigeria–Senegal tie will progress to the final round of the series, where they will face the winner of the Guinea-Bissau vs Malawi fixture for a place at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to hold in Poland from 5 to 27 September 2026.
