NRC confirms train incident near Asham, reveals no life lost

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has confirmed a train incident involving a rear locomotive and a passenger coach near Asham Station.

Disclosing this in a statement made public on Monday, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, revealed that the incident resulted due to a coupling issue.

Although no lives were lost; however, the statement indicated that several passengers were left injured and have been taken to a medical center where special care is ongoing.

In an effort to reassure the public of it’s policy to maintain safe operation, the managing director stressed that thorough investigation has begun in collaboration with all concerned agencies, including the Safety Investigation Bureau (SIB).

Opeifa further urged the public to remain calm as normalcy returns to the train tracks.
