Tinubu’s economic reforms attracting global investors, says Idris

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said Nigeria’s ongoing economic and governance reforms under the administration of President Bola Tinubu are strengthening global confidence in the country and creating new opportunities for trade, investment and international cooperation.

Idris made the remarks in London during a world press conference held ahead of Tinubu’s official visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of King Charles III, noting that the trip highlights the longstanding diplomatic and economic relationship between Nigeria and the UK.

He said the visit would provide an opportunity for both countries to deepen collaboration in key sectors, including trade and investment, security cooperation, climate action, education and technological innovation.

The minister explained that the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on stabilising the economy, expanding economic opportunities and strengthening social protection through reforms aimed at achieving sustainable national development.

He highlighted major policy steps taken by the government, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the harmonisation of foreign exchange regimes, noting that the measures have improved fiscal transparency and enhanced Nigeria’s attractiveness to investors.

According to Idris, the reforms have already begun to yield results, particularly in the oil and gas sector, where Nigeria has attracted more than eight billion dollars in investment commitments in recent years.

“Each of these investment dollars represents jobs for Nigerians, technical skills development, revitalised communities and stronger revenues for governments at all levels,” he said.

The minister also disclosed that the federal government plans to introduce a Customs Single Window digital platform to streamline trade documentation and improve efficiency, while recent reforms have enabled Nigeria to exit the Financial Action Task Force grey list, thereby strengthening the country’s credibility within the global financial system.
