NSC applauded as Team Nigeria shines at Para Grand Prix in Tunisia

The Para-Olympics Committee of Nigeria (PCN) has attributed the recent success of Team Nigeria at the Para Grand Prix in Tunisia to the unwavering support from the National Sports Commission (NSC).
These were the remarks of PCN President, Sunday Odebode, as he celebrated the performance of the country’s para-athletes. Nigeria finished second overall out of 42 countries that participated in the competition.
“The NSC, under the leadership of the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, has taken support for people living with disabilities to another level,” Odebode said.

“We have never had it this good in the past—where the Commission is not only supporting us financially but also assisting us in every technical way to succeed in both international and domestic competitions.”
He further stated that the athletes’ outstanding performance in Tunisia was a direct result of the support received, adding that it led to Nigeria securing qualification for the World Championship in India later this year, as well as booking spots for the Commonwealth Games and the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Odebode also commended the Commission for the smooth funding of its programs and training camps, which are geared towards podium finishes at next year’s Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
“The Commission has made our various programs easier to execute because of the attention and funding we are receiving. If you observe, the para-lifters just concluded their trials. We discovered 10 new athletes who will now be going to Santiago, Chile, for the World Tournament.”
Team Nigeria ended the Grand Prix with an impressive haul of 19 medals—10 gold, six silver, and three bronze.
