The Nigeria U-19 Cricket Team has received a significant boost with the arrival of the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, at the ICC T20 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia.
The arrival of the DG underscores the unwavering commitment of the NSC leadership to supporting all sports in Nigeria to achieve sustainable growth.
The Nigeria U-19 Cricket Team is making history in Malaysia, being the country’s first-ever team to qualify for a Cricket World Cup. They recorded a remarkable upset by defeating cricket giants New Zealand, sending shockwaves through the global cricket community.
Hon. Olopade, who has always been passionate about developing the so-called lesser sports in Nigeria, emphasized that the team’s success in Malaysia hinges on the quality of support they receive.
“At the Sports Commission, we are committed to ensuring that every sport receives the necessary support to grow and thrive alongside the Commission,” he said.
“This is why the NSC, under the chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko, is giving full attention to all sports.”
“I am also pleased that even before my arrival here, the girls’ performance at this World Cup has already generated so much excitement back home, which is fantastic for the growth of the sport.”
