NSC hails Nigeria wrestlers’ stellar performance at 2025 African Championships

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated Nigerian wrestlers for their remarkable performance at the 2025 Senior Wrestling Championships held in Morocco.
The Nigerian female team emerged as the overall champions for the 14th time, securing nine gold medals.
In addition, Nigeria claimed the African Championship in men’s wrestling for the first time in four years, with former junior international Steve Simon Izolo winning a gold medal, further reinforcing Nigeria’s dominance in African wrestling.
Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, praised the team for their excellent performance and assured them that their achievements would not go unnoticed by the Commission.

“This is another display of the resilient power of our great country, and I want to thank the athletes and their officials on behalf of Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Dikko said.
He added, “We are committed to ensuring, based on the mandate given to us by Mr. President, that all our athletes are well-motivated and rewarded under a sustainable sports ecosystem with a thriving economy. This is our focus and goal as we aim for long-term success across all sports.”
The Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, also commended the athletes for their outstanding performance and praised the leadership of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, led by Daniel Igali.
“The success we are seeing in wrestling is no fluke, especially considering the quality and profile of President Daniel Igali, who has continually transformed the sport with his passion, dedication, and international network,” Olopade concluded.
