NSC hails President Tinubu for honouring Super Falcons

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) has been described as a leader who nurtures and rewards excellence — a quality that is ushering in a new era for Nigerian sports.

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, made this remark while appreciating the President for honouring the victorious Super Falcons with national honours and financial rewards following their triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

President Tinubu announced a reward package that includes $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the technical and backroom staff, a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Abuja, and the conferment of the national honour — Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) — on all players and staff.

The NSC Chairman praised the President’s unwavering support and visionary leadership, noting that the sports sector now enjoys both financial and policy backing from the government.

“President Tinubu is a leader who nurtures and rewards excellence. With his consistent support, our sports ecosystem now has a clear direction. Nigerian sports is on the rise, and this latest gesture is further proof of that,” Dikko said.

Similarly, the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, described the gesture as a turning point for Nigerian sports and thanked Nigerians for their continued support of the nation’s athletes.

“Currently, our women’s basketball team is in Côte d’Ivoire defending their AfroBasket title, and our young athletes are in Algeria for the inaugural African School Games. We want to continue this momentum of continental dominance,” Olopade added.

The NSC leadership also highlighted the President’s track record, including clearing the backlog of allowances owed to the Super Eagles after last year’s AFCON and approving outstanding payments for the Super Falcons.
