NSC, NFF extend Supporters Club IMC Tenure by one year, bar election

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have approved a one-year tenure extension for the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, with a firm resolution that a general election will follow the extension.

This decision was reached on Tuesday during a strategic meeting involving NSC Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, and key stakeholders from the various factions of the Supporters Club.

The agreement stipulates that the IMC, led by Prince Vincent Okumagba, must vacate office after the one-year extension, with no option for reappointment or participation in the forthcoming general election.

Stakeholders unanimously agreed that none of the current IMC members will be eligible to contest in the elections slated for next year, ensuring a transition to new leadership.

The DG emphasized that the NSC will only recognize a unified supporters club under the umbrella of the IMC, stressing the need for a single, coordinated group to represent Nigeria at international competitions.

“We don’t have the power to ask you to deregister your various factions, but we’re determined to see one indivisible group that speaks and sings in one voice for Nigeria,” Olopade stated.

He reiterated that under the leadership of NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and himself as DG, only the IMC-led Supporters Club will be acknowledged in all activities involving sports federations, including international football engagements.

Present at the meeting were Prince Vincent Okumagba (IMC Chairman), Peter Abraham (Vice Chairman), Hon. Sunny Gudlong (Secretary), while Prince Abayomi Ogunjinmi and Rev. Sam Ikpia participated virtually via audio call.
