The National Sports Commission (NSC) recently hosted the Presidential Office of Digital Engagement & Strategy (PODES) in a working visit to strengthen collaboration in achieving President Tinubu’s vision for Nigerian sports, digital transformation, and social development.
Led by Senior Special Assistants to the President, Otega Ogra (Digital/New Media) and Ishaq Ahmed Ningi (Digital Media & Emergency Management, OVP), the PODES team held productive discussions with NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko.
They explored opportunities to enhance sports and public engagement through digital platforms, promote youth development, and create career pathways in sports, digital media, and technology.
In his reaction, Dikko praised the commitment of the PODES team, highlighting the NSC’s shared dedication to advancing Nigeria’s potential through sports and digital innovation.
“Our discussions with PODES centered on the President’s vision for a transformative sports sector,” Dikko stated. “By merging PODES’ digital engagement expertise with our sports development goals, we can build a sector that resonates with Nigerians, showcases our talent on the global stage, and ensures safety at all levels.”
Key areas discussed included digital communications, transformation, and engagement strategies to elevate Nigeria’s sports narrative. PODES aims to leverage government digital platforms to highlight Nigerian sports within President Tinubu’s vision, connecting with a global audience and fostering national pride.
Public safety and emergency preparedness were also key topics. PODES’ emergency management team, based in the Office of the Vice President, will contribute its expertise to developing safety plans for sports venues and events, ensuring the safety of athletes and spectators, and supporting Nigeria’s readiness to host national and international events in line with the NSC’s vision.
The visit set a strong foundation for PODES to lead digital communications in sports, aligning with the Tinubu-Shettima administration’s broader development initiatives and policies.
The NSC boss expressed his gratitude to Otega and Ningi for their valuable insights and commitment to a government-wide approach to partnerships for development, emphasizing that these collaborative efforts will create a vibrant, digitally empowered sports landscape that unites Nigerians and elevates the nation’s global standing.
