NSC salutes Flying Eagles for securing World Cup ticket

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has hailed Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, for reaching the semi-finals of the AFCON U-20 tournament in Egypt and securing a place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

An elated Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, said the team’s performance had improved with each match and commended their superiority over Senegal in the quarter-final clash.

“I must thank the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for this qualification feat, which reflects the collective resilience of the players and their coaching crew,” he said.

“The boys’ performance so far shows the hard work put into their preparation and camping,” Dikko added.

“We have a strong track record at this level, and the team demonstrated it today. On behalf of all Nigerians and Mr. President, I urge them to stay focused until they win the tournament.”

The Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said the Flying Eagles’ achievement is another success story from Nigeria’s sports federations.

“It’s no coincidence that many of our national teams are excelling at international competitions. Mr. President is intentional about sustaining sports development from the grassroots,” Olopade stated.

“This is why we are deliberately committed to adequately funding various federations, ensuring our players and athletes have the support they need to perform at their best while representing the country,” the DG added, expressing confidence that the team can go on to win the tournament.
