NSC salutes Super Falcons on historic 10th WAFCON title
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their remarkable comeback victory over host nation Morocco to win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night.
With the win, the Super Falcons made history as the first African team to clinch the title a record 10 times, reaffirming their dominance in women’s football on the continent.
NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, hailed the team’s courage and fighting spirit, describing their performance as a reflection of the resilience of the Nigerian people.
“What we witnessed tonight is nothing short of legendary. The Super Falcons showed the heart of true champions by rising from adversity, silencing the crowd, and etching their names into the annals of African football history,” Dikko said.
He added, “On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is proud of this team and the Nigerian sports family, we say congratulations and thank you for making the nation proud.”
NSC Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, also lauded the team’s character, urging them to aim for even greater heights after achieving “Mission X.”
“This is the Nigeria we know — resilient, relentless, and unstoppable. To bounce back from two goals down against the host nation in a final is a mark of extraordinary character,” Olopade said.
Both Dikko and Olopade were present at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, where they witnessed the Super Falcons’ dramatic victory in front of a passionate home crowd.
