NSCDC arrests 11 illegal miners in Kwara

The Kwara State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 11 suspects for alleged illegal mining at Share, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The accused were arrested on Monday at about 2pm, according to a statement by the Corp’s Public Relations Officer, Ayeni Olasunkanmi on Wednesday.

The suspects are; Kaka Azare (56), Muhammed Dan Azumi (30), Abdullahi Adamu (35), Abdullahi Muhammed (30), Suleiman Babayo (20), Muhammed Umar (15) and Nasiru Abubakar (18) Others are; Adam Muhammed (25), Alhaji Muhammed (25), Nasir Bello (25) and Ismail Garba (25). 

The suspects were arrested with three trucks fully loaded with raw materials suspected to be Lithium, illegally mined at Patigi. 

The suspects were intercepted while on their way to Ogun State.

“The Command is working hard with other relevant agencies to curtail the activities of illegal miners within the state.

“Apart from the pact between the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel to help fight this menace, the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRasaq has also ordered the NSCDC Kwara Command, to save the state from the illegal mining activities,” the statement added.
