The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has apprehended a 24-year-old man, Olalekan Kehinde, a resident of the Abidogun area in Ota-Efun, Osogbo, for allegedly vandalizing a railway track in Osun State.
According to the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, ASC Kehinde Adeleke, the suspect and his accomplice, identified as Abbey (who is currently at large), used a hammer to remove Pandrol clips from a railway track at Dagbolu on November 17, 2024.
The duo was reportedly caught in the act the following day, leading to Olalekan’s arrest.
In his confessional statement, Olalekan admitted that Abbey taught him how to remove the Pandrol clips, which they sold to metal scrap buyers in the state.
The NSCDC Commandant decried the rising incidents of vandalism of national assets, emphasizing its detrimental effects. He also issued a stern warning to metal scrap buyers in Osun State to desist from purchasing stolen or vandalized materials.
Sotiyo revealed that the command would conduct routine operations targeting scrap dealers to ensure compliance, adding that anyone found culpable would face the full force of the law.
He commended the residents of Dagbolu for their vigilance, which contributed to the suspect’s arrest, and urged the public to continue providing intelligence to enhance the safety and security of the state.
