The Osun State Government has announced that the implementation of the new minimum wage will take effect on December 1, 2024, with a one-month arrears payment.

In addition to the new minimum wage, the government has also approved an improved pension package of ₦25,000.00 for pensioners across the state.

Speaking during the signing of the implementation agreement between the state government and labour leaders, the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, disclosed that the new minimum wage of ₦75,554.28 applies to all categories of employees, including those in local governments.

Adewusi urged public servants in the state to reciprocate the government’s commitment by working diligently, enhancing service delivery, and boosting revenue generation.

He also commended the labour leaders for their cooperation, encouraging them to educate their members on understanding the workings of government.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, expressed gratitude for the smooth and conflict-free approval process. He stated that the seamless implementation has strengthened the trust between the labour union and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

Meanwhile, the Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, in a circular released on Friday, stated:
“The implementation of the new minimum wage in the state is based on a table arrived at through exhaustive negotiations and deliberations between the government and organized labour, considering essential parameters such as revenue availability, projected revenue forecasts, existing debt burdens, sustainability, and the continued growth and development of Osun State.”
