NSCDC seeks joint efforts to protect critical infrastructure in Ondo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has urged stakeholders to prioritise the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) as a means of boosting the nation’s economy.

The State Commandant, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, gave the charge during a stakeholders’ coordination meeting on CNAI, held on Wednesday in Akure. He stated that the forum was in line with directives from the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Commandant-General of the Corps.

According to him, safeguarding national assets should be viewed as a shared responsibility between security agencies and the public.

Ibiloye added that vandalism of infrastructure such as roads, power installations, and communication lines often results in loss of lives and economic hardship.

He noted that although the rate of destruction in Ondo remains relatively low, some vandals have already been arrested and are currently facing prosecution.

The Regional Head of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Akure, Mr. Olumide Atilara, also lamented the impact of vandalism on electricity supply.

Similarly, the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Sule Abdulaziz, represented by the Principal Manager in Akure, Mr. Okedele Sunday, appealed to community leaders to support security agencies in protecting power infrastructure.

The Chairman of the Ondo State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Mr. Tomide Akiribido, assured stakeholders that the government is considering the deployment of CCTV cameras and remote sensors to secure critical facilities.
