The incident happened at about 11:09 a.m. on August 26, 2025, at kilometre 49 between Kubwa Station and Asham Station. According to preliminary reports, six passengers sustained injuries, while no fatalities were recorded.
A team of investigators has been deployed to the site to collect evidence, engage stakeholders, and determine the circumstances surrounding the derailment.
In a statement, the Director General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy to those injured and assured that the investigation would be thorough and transparent.
“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation,” Badeh said.
The Bureau explained that the probe would examine both the direct and underlying causes of the incident, with the goal of issuing safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
