NUC approves 34 programmes for new Ekiti varsity

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation for 34 academic programmes at the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti.

The registrar of the institution, Mr Oluwole Dada, announced this in a statement on Thursday, saying the approval paves the way for the official commencement of the 2025/2026 academic session.

He explained that the accreditation followed a week-long facility verification exercise by four NUC teams, who inspected the university’s laboratories, lecture halls, offices, hostels, library, clinic, staff buses and teaching equipment.

He stated, “The exercise was aimed at ascertaining the institution’s preparedness and its capacity to deliver world-class training in science, engineering and technology, computing and information technology and environmental sciences.”

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, described the approval as “a milestone that affirms the university’s readiness to provide 21st-century education.” He urged admission seekers to select FUTES on the JAMB portal, assuring that admission would be strictly on merit.

“We are here for academic excellence, and that is the standard we want to set from the onset. Students who performed well in JAMB, WAEC, NECO or NABTEB will be admitted purely on merit, without fear or favour,” he said.

Aribisala warned parents against dealing with admission agents, noting, “We want to make it clear to members of the public that the university has no agent for admissions or payments of any kind. Our website is open to everyone to access accurate information.”

The NUC-approved programmes cover four faculties: Engineering and Technology, Science, Environmental Sciences, and Computing and Information Technology.

President Bola Tinubu had, on February 20, 2025, signed into law the bill establishing FUTES alongside the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State.
