BREAKING: NURTW appoints 9-man caretaker committee to oversee union activities in Lagos

A nine-man caretaker committee has been set up by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to coordinate operations of the union in Lagos, WesternPost has learnt.

Although, it was gathered that the committee would operate for only three months.

WesternPost had reported that the national body of the union dissolved the State Administrative Council (SAC) in the state, headed by Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo).

A reliable source at the national office of the union in Abuja told WesternPost that the decision to constitute the caretaker committee was to prevent any vacuum in administration of the transport body activities and to ensure members continuously support the government’s master plan for transport development in the state.

The source revealed that the nine-man caretaker committee is to be led by Fatai Adeshina, a stakeholder in the transportation sector.

Other members of the committee are Sunday Yusuf, Abraham Onifade, Jamiu Erinfolami, Ismaila Ojora, Lekan Ariyibi, Murtala Lawal, Taiwo Azeez while Kayode Agbeyangi would serve as secretary.

A source in the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, informed WesternPost that a written letter signed by the National President of NURTW, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa and the General Secretary, Alhaji Kabiru Ado-Yau, containing the names of the nine-man committee had been received by the state government.

In the letter, which was dated April 14th, the Union pointed out clearly that the committee members were carefully chosen and that they would be committed to the development of the Lagos transport sector.

The Union in the letter noted that the committee would manage affairs of the Lagos chapter after SAC dissolution which was done to bring sanity to the union’s operation across the metropolis.

According to the letter, the national secretariat deemed it necessary to set up a caretaker committee to replace the dissolved SAC to take charge of the affairs of the state council for the next three months.

The body’s national leadership appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to allow the existing harmonious relationship between NURTW and state government to continue and that it should be extended to the newly appointed officers.
