NURTW boss survives assassination attempt
By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ekiti State, Ambassador Joseph Falope, popularly known as Oloforo, narrowly escaped death yesterday night when suspected gunmen allegedly attacked him at the entrance of his residence in Aramoko.
Narrating his ordeal to newsmen, the NURTW Chairman explained that when trying to drive in at the entrance of his gate in Aramoko with a branded bus known as Akoto, the suspected gunmen accosted him and attacked him with guns.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers fled immediately after the failed attempt, leaving behind panic among neighbours.
The Ekiti State NURTW Chairman described the development as uncalled for and urged security agents to fish out the suspects as well as provide security for him and his family.
He noted that the matter had been reported to the police for urgent action.
As of the time of filing this report, the phone number of the police public relations officer could not be reached.
It would be recalled that a leader of NURTW, Chairman in Ekiti State, Omolafe Aderiye, was shot dead some years ago in Ekiti State.
