NURTW: Labour ministry denies undermining agreement with NLC

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has denied the allegation by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that it is trying to undermine the critical Labour-Federal Government Agreement of October 2, 2023.

The NLC had accused the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, of supporting one of the factions in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which is embroiled in a leadership crisis.

However, in a press release issued on Friday, the Ministry said that the allegation was unfounded and that the Minister had given consistent, adequate and fair attention to the matter with a view to resolving it.

The press release, signed by the Director of Information, Olajide Oshundun, stated: “Several meetings have been held to resolve the issue with representatives of the disputing groups, and the efforts are still ongoing. Therefore, it is not correct to suggest that the Minister is supporting any of the groups in the course of the negotiations.”

The Ministry assured the members of the NURTW, the NLC, and the entire Labour movement that the Minister, as Chief Conciliator, would continue to work with all parties to ensure that there is reconciliation, harmony and industrial peace.
