The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has declared a 300-level Chemistry student, Dorcas Oseghale, missing four days after she left her residence and failed to return.

In a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, Dorcas, with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on August 6, 2025. She reportedly left her Adesanmi House residence along Ibadan Road to buy food in front of the students’ village on Ede Road but has since been unreachable, with her phone lines switched off.

Her roommate, Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice, raised the alarm, prompting a search by fellow students and the University’s Security Unit.

Olarewaju said the institution first received information about her disappearance from a student social media platform on August 7 before deploying security personnel to work with the Nigerian Police to intensify the search.

According to him, at about 6:10 p.m. on the same day, a group of Chemistry students, alongside Dorcas’s roommate, formally reported the case at the University Security Unit.

Given the complexity of the matter, the Security Unit assigned three personnel to accompany the students and liaise with the Nigerian Police, who possess the manpower and technical expertise to investigate the disappearance.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, commended the students for their swift action and urged security agencies to leave no stone unturned in finding Dorcas.

He appealed to anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station or contact the OAU Security Unit immediately.
