The Ekiti State Government has announced the dissolution of the Council of Traditional Rulers and appointed the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, HRM Oba Samuel Adejimi Adu Alagbado, Agirilala II, as the new Chairman of the Council.

The decision was made public in a statement signed by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, and circulated to journalists on Thursday. The dissolution follows the expiration of the two-year tenure of the outgoing council led by the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, HRM Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, which ended on July 31, 2025.

Oba Adu Alagbado will succeed Oba Ilori-Faboro, who was appointed Chairman on July 31, 2023, by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji. The government expressed gratitude to the outgoing chairman and his council for their patriotic service and contributions to the advancement of traditional governance in the state.

According to the statement, a formal swearing-in ceremony for the new Chairman will be conducted by Governor Oyebanji, with the date to be announced in due course.

The government commended the past leadership of the council for partnering effectively with the state to protect the traditional institution and support broader governance objectives.

It also expressed optimism that Oba Adu Alagbado would bring his wealth of experience and leadership to bear in steering the affairs of the traditional council.

Oba Adu Alagbado is a respected monarch known for his advocacy on community development and traditional values. His appointment has been widely welcomed in the state’s traditional and political circles.

The State Council of Traditional Rulers plays a crucial advisory role to the government and serves as a vital bridge between the people and the administration across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas.
