Tinubu extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s tenure by one year
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, whose tenure was originally set to expire on August 31, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the extension is intended to allow Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms within the service and complete key initiatives being championed by the Tinubu administration.
These include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
The Presidency praised Mr. Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” describing him as instrumental to the government’s reform agenda in customs administration.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the additional year would further empower the Customs Service to deliver on its strategic mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and enhanced border security.
Mr. Adeniyi, who was appointed Comptroller-General in 2023, has led several initiatives focused on digitisation, operational efficiency, and institutional transparency.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ensuring continuity in the leadership of key government institutions for sustained national development.
