Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi will on Wednesday assume office as the seventh substantive vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, succeeding Professor Olugbenga Ige, whose tenure ends on Tuesday.

The university disclosed this in a statement signed by its Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Victor Akinpelumi. It said the handover ceremony would take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the institution’s Multipurpose Hall.

According to the statement, Obamuyi’s appointment was approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the visitor to the university, after he emerged as the preferred candidate from a field of 15 professors interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

The statement described Obamuyi as a professor of finance with more than 30 years of teaching, research and administrative experience.

He holds a doctorate in Management Science from Federal University of Technology Akure and has supervised numerous postgraduate students while serving as an external examiner and assessor for universities within and outside Nigeria.

Before his appointment, Obamuyi held several leadership positions at AAUA, including acting head of the Department of Banking and Finance and director of Linkages and International Programmes. He also served as the pioneer substantive dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, before becoming director of the university’s Advancement Centre.

The university said the incoming vice chancellor had secured several local and international research grants, authored more than 80 scholarly publications and presented academic papers in 13 countries. It added that he received the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa award in 2015 in recognition of his contributions to scholarship.

Describing the appointment as the outcome of a rigorous selection process, the university said Obamuyi’s academic credentials, leadership experience and institutional knowledge positioned him to lead the institution’s next phase of development. It expressed confidence that his global exposure and research accomplishments would strengthen the university’s pursuit of academic excellence.
