Don’t allow loss of return tickets undermine your legislative duties, Obasa urges Lagos lawmakers

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa has urged lawmakers who lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket during the just concluded primaries not to stop discharging their legislative duties to their constituents.
WesternPost had reported that twenty members of the House of Assembly failed to clinch the return ticket of the party at the Assembly primaries conducted in May 27th.
Obasa gave the advice at the resumption of plenary on Monday after the primary election.
The Speaker advised them not to allow the loss to deter them from performing their legislative duties which they were elected for, adding that they still have up to June 2023 when the tenure of the 9th assembly would expire to attend to the needs of their constituencies.

He noted that half of the 40 members in the House were not satisfied with the outcome of the primaries in some constituencies.
“Even though the election has come and gone, but many of us are not satisfied with the outcome of the election but that is democracy for us.
“Some of us that are not lucky enough still have almost a year to serve our people, our constituencies, in this hallowed chamber.
“So our primary assignment now is for us to focus on our legislative duty and to ensure that we do our best and we will continue to do it.
“It is of great concern to me that having almost half of members leaving is not a good primary outing for the next Assembly,” Obasa said.
