Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed disappointment over rumors of his death circulating on social media.
Speaking on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Old Garage-Oke Fia-Lameco road in Osogbo, Obasanjo addressed the baseless speculation. He recounted waking up to news of his purported demise, which had gone viral online.
“I was told to check social media, and when I saw the rumors, I shared them with my family, relatives, and friends,” he said, expressing amazement that some people would wish him dead.
During the event, the former President commended Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for his outstanding performance, particularly in road construction projects.
Obasanjo praised Adeleke’s transformative initiatives, stating that Osogbo would serve as a model for other state capitals in Nigeria.
“When he came into office, some people mockingly said he had nothing to offer except dancing. But he has shown them that he is not only a good dancer but also a remarkable performer,” Obasanjo remarked.
He encouraged Adeleke to sustain his developmental efforts, emphasizing that the people of Osun entrusted him with their votes to bring meaningful change to their lives.
In his speech, Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a sustainable, modern capital city for both Osun indigenes and non-indigenes. He underscored Osun’s importance as the cradle of Yoruba civilization and vowed to advance the state’s development for present and future generations.
Adeleke expressed gratitude to former President Obasanjo for his unwavering support and guidance. He also acknowledged the contributions of the late Asiwaju of Osogboland, Abdulfatai Adekilekun Ajani Badmus, to the transformation of the state capital.
In honor of the late leader’s legacy, the Governor announced the renaming of the Old Garage-Oke Fia-Lameco road after him.
