Oborududu hails organisers of 3rd Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics

Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborududu has commended the organizers of the Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics for their exceptional efforts in hosting the third edition of the event in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. She highlighted their commitment to nurturing athletic talent and promoting sports development in the state.

In an interview, the 14-time national wrestling champion and two-time Commonwealth gold medalist expressed her admiration for the organizers’ meticulous preparations for the upcoming competition.

Oborududu also took the opportunity to thank Governor Douye Diri for making the Gov. Diri National Wrestling Classics possible. This prestigious tournament, she noted, has provided a platform for athletes to showcase their skills, and she is thrilled to be part of it.

As she assessed the readiness of Bayelsa State’s wrestlers for the Classics, Oborududu voiced confidence in the team’s preparation. She emphasized that the athletes have undergone an extensive period of rigorous training, refining their skills and building strength to make their state proud.

The 12-time African wrestling champion also announced she would not be competing in this year’s Wrestling Classics. Instead, she is focusing on nurturing the next generation of wrestling talent through her club.

The third edition of the Gov. Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics will take place from November 3 to 10, 2024, at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The event is expected to attract over 800 participants, including athletes and officials, competing in three categories: Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Cadet. This wide-ranging competition will offer a platform for wrestlers of all levels.
