Manchester United has officially appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager, currently in charge of Sporting Lisbon, will transition to Old Trafford on November 11. Amorim’s contract with United will last until June 2027, marking an exciting new chapter for both the club and the highly-rated coach.

Amorim arrives with a strong reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young managers. Known for his dynamic style, he has received acclaim for his tactical expertise and player development, leading Sporting to an impressive 14-game unbeaten streak after a loss to Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup in early August.

In a club statement, Manchester United praised Amorim as “one of the most exciting and highly-rated young coaches in European football.” This decision reflects United’s commitment to embracing fresh ideas and a strong managerial vision after several coaching changes since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been serving as interim manager since Erik ten Hag’s departure, will continue to lead the team for the next three matches. Amorim’s official tenure will commence after the international break, with his first match scheduled for November 24 against newly promoted Ipswich.

Following that, he will experience his debut home game on November 28 against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. The week will conclude with a Premier League match against Everton.

To bring Amorim to Old Trafford, United agreed to pay Sporting Lisbon €10 million (£8.3 million), activating a release clause in his contract. Although details about Amorim’s coaching staff have not yet been announced, Manchester United assures fans that this information will be forthcoming.

As Amorim prepares to wrap up his responsibilities with Sporting, he will be on the sidelines for several key fixtures, including tonight’s league match against Estrela and a high-profile Champions League clash against Manchester City. Sporting will also face his former club, Braga, on November 10, just one day before Amorim’s official start with United.

With Amorim’s arrival, fans are optimistic about the future. As the club enters this new era under his leadership, supporters hope that this bold decision will bring renewed success and stability to Old Trafford.
