Power Minister pledges restoration of key transmission line to northern states in 14 days

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has announced plans to restore the Shiroro-Mando 330kV transmission line within two weeks, aiming to restore electricity supply across northern Nigeria.

Adelabu made this commitment during a visit to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House in Kano. This assurance comes as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) works to resolve a power outage that has left 19 northern states without electricity.

The Minister emphasized TCN’s dedication to the repair, noting that restoring power is a top priority to provide relief to affected communities.

“I assure you that our teams are working day and night for a partial restoration to become a full restoration,” he stated.

Adelabu added that two of the vandalized lines from the Markudi-Bauchi road are being repaired, with one already restored. He expects the second line to be fixed by Sunday, enabling full restoration.

Efforts are ongoing to restore the main transmission line from Shiroro. “We continue to work on the Shiroro-Mando-Kaduna line, which may take about 14 days to repair due to the extent of the damage,” he explained. “Vandals used land mines to blow up these installations, affecting many towers, which require significant civil work to fix.”

While describing the power outage in northern Nigeria as unfortunate, the Minister assured that President Bola Tinubu has no intention of discriminating against any region, as has been mistakenly suggested.

“The situation is indeed worrisome. The president does not intend to discriminate against any region. We all voted for him as Nigerians, and he has all of us at heart.”
