Ogogo’s daughters seek help as actor battles stage-four cancer

The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, who they said is battling stage-four cancer.

Lima and Kira Taiwo made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, medical professionals and well-wishers to help the actor access further treatment.

Lima said the actor’s condition had deteriorated and claimed that hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him. She appealed to healthcare professionals and facilities capable of managing his condition to intervene, stressing that the family was not seeking financial donations.

According to her, the family only became aware of the severity of the actor’s illness about three weeks ago because his appearance did not initially indicate how serious his condition was.

“Please, I’m begging you. If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” Lima said.

Kira, in a separate video, disclosed that her father’s cancer had reached stage four and said a hospital had informed the family that it could no longer continue his chemotherapy. She appealed to anyone capable of providing cancer treatment to contact the family.

She also acknowledged the financial support provided by Senator Yayi, who she said had been helping the family settle the actor’s medical bills. However, she stressed that their current appeal was for medical intervention rather than money.

Hassan, 66, is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry whose acting career spans more than four decades. He has featured in more than 300 films and remains one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
