Ogun now thriving sports hub under Governor Abiodun – NSC DG

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has praised Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for transforming the state into a vibrant hub for sports development and economic growth.
Speaking on Day One of the CAA African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships at the newly refurbished MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Olopade said the youth of Ogun State will remain grateful to the governor for his commitment to sports revival.
He noted that the governor’s investments in sports infrastructure have positioned Abeokuta and Ogun State as hosts of major international sporting events.

“Look at how Governor Dapo Abiodun has transformed the landscape of sports development in Ogun State. By investing across the board in infrastructure, the state is now hosting Africa in a world-class event,” he said.
Olopade added that Ogun is now a recognised sporting hub of both national and international repute, capable of attracting top-tier athletes and events.
He aligned the achievements with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the NSC to shift focus from merely consuming sports abroad to producing sports value locally through international hosting.
“This championship is happening just two months after Ogun successfully hosted one of the best-organised National Sports Festivals — the Gateway Games 2024,” Olopade noted.
He concluded by commending Governor Abiodun’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy, adding that he and the NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, are grateful for the governor’s dedication to empowering youth through sports.
