The Ogun State Police Command has identified officers captured in a viral video assaulting a young man and commenced disciplinary action against them over alleged misconduct.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, ordered immediate disciplinary measures against the officers following the circulation of the video, which showed them restraining a young man and attempting to handcuff him.

The incident reportedly arose from allegations that the young man was wearing shorts resembling the police uniform. The footage also showed some residents intervening and attempting to free him from the officers.

According to eyewitness accounts accompanying the video, the residents came to the young man’s defence after the officers allegedly accused him of wearing clothing made from police uniform material.

The eyewitnesses further alleged that the officers found nothing incriminating on the young man and that he was not caught committing any offence. These claims have not been independently verified.

Hours after the video surfaced online, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the officers involved had been identified and that disciplinary procedures had commenced.

Babaseyi said the action was being taken in line with established policing regulations and internal procedures, following the commissioner’s directive.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to accountability, professional discipline and maintaining high standards of policing across Ogun State, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations progressed.
