Ogunrinde leads PDP legal team at Ibadan North by-election tribunal

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Tunji Ogunrinde, is leading a team of 13 lawyers defending the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Hon. Sunday Oyekunle Folajimi, before the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan over the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on August 16, 2025.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate had filed a petition challenging the outcome of the poll, citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022, and seeking the nullification of the election or the conduct of a fresh or supplementary poll in some polling units.

In a preliminary objection, Ogunrinde described the petition as frivolous, baseless, and incompetent, urging the tribunal to dismiss it with costs for failing to meet the requirements of the law.

At the tribunal’s sitting on Wednesday, October 15, the panel urged both parties to cooperate and ensure a smooth hearing process.

The case was adjourned to Thursday, October 16, 2025, for further proceedings.
