Ohaneze Ndigbo disowns statement in support of suspended CBN Governor

Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, has disowned a statement that surfaced claiming their support for the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The organisation in a statement signed by the group’s President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu denounced the statement as false and emphasized that it does not align with their official position.

“We want to state categorically that this is false in its entirety. Mazi Chima Uzor is an impersonator and unknown to Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide. There is no office for National Interest Matters in Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide,” the statement read.

The statement added that Ohaneze Ndigbo has no intentions of interfering with ongoing investigations carried out by the Department of State Services (DSS) or other security agencies, saying that the organization does not seek to interfere with any disciplinary actions taken by the government against its officials.

“Individuals have a right to go to court, and when the court of law proves the individual innocent and Ohaneze is convinced that the individual is innocent, Ohaneze will take every step necessary to assist the individual. In the other hand, if the individual is guilty, Ohaneze will be unable to assist,” the statement added.

The case of Mazi Chima Uzor, who issued the false statement, was referred to as a matter of criminal impersonation. Ohaneze Ndigbo urged the security agencies to treat it as a serious crime case, emphasizing the need for swift action.

Ohaneze Ndigbo expressed concern about fraudsters who misuse their name for personal gain. They called upon security agencies to collaborate in flushing out these individuals to protect the good name and reputation of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
