Ojudu responds to critics, lists achievements as senator

A former Senator representing Ekiti Central, Babafemi Ojudu, has challenged those questioning his performance in the National Assembly to examine available records before passing judgment on his tenure.
Ojudu, who made this known in a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday, said he decided to retrieve records of his activities in the Senate from the internet in response to critics who frequently ask, “What did he do when he was in the Senate?”
He said public office holders should be open to scrutiny, adding that he welcomed genuine questions about his stewardship as a senator. However, he faulted what he described as the use of legitimate questions as a political weapon without examining the facts.
According to him, although the internet may not contain a complete record of his activities as senator, available materials provide sufficient information for anyone interested in assessing his performance objectively.
Ojudu drew attention to a 2014 article titled “Senator Ojudu: A Lamb Among Wolves,” written by Dr Peregrino Brimah and originally published by Trumpet Media Group. The article highlighted some of Ojudu’s interventions and positions while serving in the Senate.
The report cited Ojudu’s warning in December 2011 against the planned removal of fuel subsidy, as well as his stated intention to challenge the policy in the Senate and join Nigerians and labour unions in protest.
It also listed some of the bills and issues he pursued, including proposed legislation on political debates and compliance with legislative resolutions, as well as his interventions on alleged corruption in recruitment, concerns over the police training college, irregularities in the 2014 budget and the controversial 2014 immigration recruitment exercise.
Ojudu urged his critics and other Nigerians to read the available records and form their own conclusions based on evidence, rather than assumptions, prejudice or partisan considerations.
