Ojulari outlines ambitious growth plan as new NNPC CEO

Newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has unveiled an ambitious roadmap aimed at transforming the state-owned energy giant into a globally competitive, transparent, and high-performing enterprise.

Ojulari addressed thousands of staff members during a townhall meeting at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Thursday, just days after officially taking over the reins of the company. In his first public engagement, he pledged to lead NNPC Ltd. into a new era of growth and innovation, describing the company as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy future.

“We stand at the gateway of a new era—one that demands courage, professionalism, and a relentless drive for excellence,” Ojulari said. “The task before us is great, yet the opportunity to redefine Nigeria’s energy future is even greater.”

During his address, the GCEO laid out a bold vision for NNPC Ltd., anchored on attracting sectoral investments of $30 billion by 2027 and $60 billion by 2030. Key targets include increasing crude oil production to over 2 million barrels per day by 2027 and 3 million barrels by 2030, boosting refining capacity to 200,000 barrels per day by 2027 and 500,000 barrels by 2030, and growing gas output to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion by 2030.

Ojulari emphasized that these metrics are not just statistics but represent real opportunities for job creation, industrial growth, and improved energy security for Nigerians.

To realize these goals, he said NNPC Ltd. would prioritize structural reconfiguration for agility and value creation, enforce a robust performance management system, and build transparent partnerships with stakeholders. He also stressed the importance of shaping the company’s narrative as a reformed and future-ready energy leader.

Ojulari called on staff to take pride in the transformation of NNPC Ltd., which recently transitioned into a fully commercial entity. He pledged to foster an inclusive and high-performance culture, where both experienced professionals and younger talent can thrive.

He also promised to strengthen engagement with in-house and national unions to build a trust-based, collaborative working environment.
