Okowa congratulates Amusan on silver medal victory in Tokyo

The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has congratulated Nigeria’s hurdles queen, Oluwatobi Amusan, on winning the silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Amusan, the current world record holder, finished second in the final with a time of 12.29 seconds, behind her familiar rival, Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland, who clinched the gold in 12.24 seconds.

Okowa, describing Amusan as a national pride, affirmed that the federation would continue to support Nigerian athletes to reach their full potential.

He noted that her achievement was significant and a testament to the indomitable spirit of Nigerians on the global stage.

“I am particularly happy for Tobi Amusan. She is carrying the hopes of Nigerians at the World Championships as a star athlete,” Okowa said.

“Her discipline on the track against tough competitors was outstanding, especially as the defending champion. Once again, Tobi has shown that great talents abound in Nigeria.”

The AFN president also congratulated Team Nigeria for securing a podium finish, noting that every medal earned strengthens the country’s presence in global athletics.

“Congratulations to Team Nigeria for this valuable medal,” he added.
