Wike to flag off 12 new roads, solar lighting projects in Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, begin the flag-off of the construction of 12 new roads and the rollout of integrated solar lighting systems in key parts of Abuja under the Light Up Abuja Programme.

In a statement issued Monday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, it was revealed that the minister will also commission completed access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District, as well as Esther Bali Street (Road ILS 11) and Kez Udezue Street (MAR 24) in Mabushi District.

The solar lighting project will cover major districts such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District, and the Airport Expressway (Lot I), as well as Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension (Lot II).

Road projects set for flag-off include the development of Arterial Road N1 (Wuye to Ring Road II), Northern Parkway (Ring Road II to III), and the Phase II expansion of Solomon Lar Way (Arterial Road N20) to the Airport Expressway. Other access roads include the link to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana West and a bypass to the Airport Second Runway with a four-span bridge.

Additional infrastructure projects include erosion control and bridge construction in Kaura District, access roads to FCT Fire Service Stations, transit connections between Central Area and Wuse, the extension of Mohammed Isa Road in Asokoro, and the rehabilitation of 15km of Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction.

The minister will also flag off engineering infrastructure projects in Guzape A09, AIT Neighborhood of Asokoro, and Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) in Katampe. A new initiative will also deliver residences for the heads of federal courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal and Chief Judge of the FCT.

This wave of projects follows recent efforts by the FCT administration to improve satellite town infrastructure. In recent weeks, Minister Wike commissioned water expansion projects in Bwari and Karu, a sports complex in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court in Jabi, and the reconstruction of Karu Road.
