Okpebholo assures Edo residents of stronger security, faster development in 2026

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents of renewed hope, improved security and accelerated development as the state enters 2026, describing the New Year as a defining phase of “Hope and Growth” for Edo State.

In his 2026 New Year message, Okpebholo thanked God for sustaining the state through 2025, which marked his administration’s first year in office. He said the year recorded steady progress despite the challenges inherited at the start of his tenure.

The Governor recalled that his administration met a state grappling with insecurity, poor roads, weak institutions and low public confidence, but said the narrative is gradually changing with the support of Edo people.

According to him, measurable progress has been recorded under the SHINE Agenda in areas including security, infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, economic development and job creation, stressing that his government prioritises action over rhetoric.

While acknowledging that challenges persist, Okpebholo assured residents that issues such as poor roads, food security, unemployment and pockets of criminal activity are being confronted decisively.

He disclosed that since November 2024, his administration has intensified efforts against crime by strengthening law enforcement, supporting lawful arrests and demolishing criminal hideouts across the state, warning that kidnapping and cult-related violence will not be tolerated.

As part of enhanced security measures for 2026, the Governor announced the introduction of a dedicated security hotline to enable residents report crimes in real time, assuring that security agencies are fully prepared to respond swiftly.

Looking ahead, Okpebholo described 2026 as a year of inclusive growth, pledging that no community would be left behind. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other stakeholders for their support and urged Edo people to embrace peace, unity and hard work in the New Year.
