Olaopa, Walson-Jack inaugurate joint committee to strengthen civil service collaboration

The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof. Tunji Olaopa, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs Esther Didi Walson-Jack, have inaugurated a joint technical committee to strengthen collaboration and strengthen the Nigerian civil service.

The committee, inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja, is a joint initiative of the FCSC and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) to harmonise positions on issues of common concern and enhance effective leadership across the service.

The development followed the maiden OHCSF-FCSC Joint Retreat held on October 13, 2025, where key concerns were identified and the need for a technical team was agreed upon.

Speaking at the event, Olaopa said the committee would examine critical issues and develop a baseline report to guide future engagements and reforms within the civil service.

He noted that both institutions, though distinct, play complementary roles, but lamented past challenges such as unhealthy rivalry, boundary disputes, and attempts to encroach on each other’s statutory responsibilities.

“The need for sustained engagement and structured dialogue became evident, as both institutions agreed that only a coordinated approach would ensure effective reforms and a seamless working relationship,” Olaopa said.

In her remarks, Walson-Jack described the inauguration as a milestone, stressing that the committee would translate ideas into actionable reforms and ensure resolutions are implemented.

She added that the initiative would help build a more efficient civil service capable of driving national development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
