The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned political figures in Oyo State against involving him in political matters, stressing that he is not a politician.

His reaction followed rumours claiming that the monarch and some political actors in the state were plotting to impeach governor Seyi Makinde.

He made his stance known in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, wherein he dismissed the allegations as false and unfounded.

Oloko explained that the monarch has no constitutional authority to impeach a governor, noting that traditional rulers do not have the power to remove elected officials from office.

He added that a traditional ruler does not even have the authority to remove a local government chairman, much less a state governor.

He further urged the public and political actors to avoid dragging the monarch into political controversies.

“You don’t have to be a former governor or distinguished senator to know that a monarch has no power to impeach a local government chairman, not to talk of a state governor,” the statement read.
