First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has condemned the continued existence of child labour in the country, declaring it unacceptable for any child to be forced into work at the expense of education and personal development.
In a statement marking the World Day Against Child Labour on Thursday, Mrs. Tinubu expressed deep concern over the plight of millions of Nigerian children trapped in child labour instead of attending school and enjoying their childhood.
“Today, we raise our voices for millions of children whose dreams are stolen by the harsh reality of child labour. It is unacceptable that children are still forced to work instead of going to school, pursuing their dreams, and learning how to grow into productive members of society,” she said.
The First Lady called for urgent action to eradicate child labour, urging stakeholders to strengthen laws, support vulnerable families, and invest in quality education for every child.
She also encouraged Nigerians to work together to build a nation where every child can thrive and achieve their full potential.
“Let us speed up efforts to end child labour in all ramifications by strengthening our laws, supporting families, and investing in quality education for every child. I urge us to work towards building a country where every child is free to thrive, dream, and reach their God-given potential. God bless our precious children,” she said.
