First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on the people of Plateau State—particularly community elders—to prioritize peace and reconciliation as the state continues to recover from recent violent clashes.
Speaking during a visit to Jos on Wednesday, the First Lady said she came not just as a government official but as a mother whose heart bleeds for the victims of the conflict. Her visit was part of a humanitarian outreach by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), her pet project.
“I came as a mother whose heart bleeds,” she said. “I pray this will be the last time I visit this state for such an intervention. May God honour this prayer.”
Appealing to residents to prevent further violence, she added: “Do not give room for the serpent to enter and assault you. Mend the broken hedge. This is enough.”
During the visit, Senator Tinubu donated ₦1 billion, along with food items and clothing, to victims of the unrest on behalf of RHI.
Addressing the youth, she urged them to embrace peace and unity, reminding them of their duty to preserve the country for future generations. “As the second stanza of the national anthem says, Nigeria must hand over a banner without stain,” she said.
She also appealed to men in the affected communities to protect women and children and allow them to safely pursue their livelihoods, including farming.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State expressed gratitude for the visit and the donation, assuring the First Lady that the funds would be distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
