The First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has empowered 500 women across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

The beneficiaries received equipment including deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines to support existing businesses or start new ventures.

Speaking at the event held at the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Mrs. Tinubu, represented by the Oyo State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, highlighted the critical role of women in nation-building.

She said the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes inclusivity, economic growth, and sustainable development, particularly women’s economic empowerment.

“Women empowerment is central to achieving SDGs, particularly SDG-5 on gender equality and SDG-8 on decent work and economic growth. The items distributed today aim to equip women with tools to build successful businesses and contribute to national prosperity,” she stated.

Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, described the empowerment as a milestone in driving meaningful economic impact across Nigeria.

She commended Mrs. Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for women to thrive and urged beneficiaries to use the resources responsibly to build sustainable livelihoods.

Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, also praised the initiative, urging beneficiaries not to sell the items but to maximize their benefits for economic independence. Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting the support will significantly reduce their financial burdens.
