Oluwo dismisses terror group claims, says Iwo is safe

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has denied reports alleging the presence of a terrorist group in Iwo, describing such claims as false, unfounded and deliberately fabricated.
The monarch, in a statement by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, said the report was coordinated by enemies to discredit the security structure, religious strength and peaceful nature of Iwoland, stressing that Iwo remains one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria.
Specifically, Oba Akanbi stated that the allegation was a calculated attempt to weaken the security capacity of the town by targeting the Jaysu Security Network, which he said has been instrumental in maintaining peace and safety in Iwo.
He warned that individuals spreading the report were engaging in what he described as social media terrorism and banditry, adding that legal action would be taken against anyone found peddling such falsehoods.
He noted that the organisation linked to the allegation, Jama’atu Ta’awunil Muslimeen, led by the Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Sheikh Dahood Imran Molaasan, is a lawful and reputable group that has contributed to the security of the town, as well as national security and academic development.
According to him, the organisation operates over 40 schools, including a private College of Education and orphanage homes, while its security wing has worked closely with the Nigerian Police Force to arrest criminals and curb insecurity in Iwoland.
He disclosed that that the group’s contributions to education and security inspired him to confer the title of Grand Mufty of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta on Sheikh Molaasan.
“Imran Molaasan is an international asset who has efficiently delivered international assignments. He was only invited, and as a law-abiding Nigerian, he honoured the invitation of the DSS. Every attempt to make Iwo vulnerable will be vehemently resisted. We know where the coordinated attack is coming from. Those distractions have failed and will continue to fail,” he added.
