The Oluwo of Iwo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has commended the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, for what he described as exceptional service and transformative leadership of the agency.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, on Tuesday, the monarch noted that since Adeniyi’s appointment, Nigeria has witnessed a significant reduction in insecurity due to his proactive efforts in tightening border control and curbing smuggling activities.

Oba Akanbi stated that Adeniyi’s leadership has “contributed immensely to the infrastructural development of Nigeria, accruing huge revenue unprecedented in the history of the country, which forms a substantial part of the physical projects executed by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He further praised Adeniyi’s embrace of digital surveillance and modern customs practices, which have enhanced border integrity and strengthened the fight against economic sabotage.

The monarch added, “Your approach is a reflection of your professional and administrative prowess. You are giving us the best. Nigerians are proud of you. You have lifted the spirit of the service.”

He noted that Adeniyi has effectively prevented border leakages and thwarted acts of economic sabotage. According to him, Adeniyi’s wealth of experience earned him the historic achievement of becoming the first Nigerian Comptroller General of Customs to head the World Customs Organization.

Oba Akanbi also congratulated the Customs CG on his recent election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO), emphasizing that his competence and track record made the recognition well deserved.

Adeniyi’s emergence followed his election at the 145th/146th WCO Council meeting held at the organization’s headquarters in Brussels.
