PDP slams ADC spokesperson over ‘attack’, reaffirms readiness for 2027 polls

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it described as an unprovoked verbal attack by Bolaji Abdullahi, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing him of using his platform to attack the PDP rather than addressing critical national issues.

In a statement signed on Tuesday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party described Abdullahi’s remarks on national television as “reckless” and “revealing,” citing his past role as chief image maker of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a party the PDP labelled as “lying, deceitful, corrupt and failed.”

The PDP suggested that Abdullahi’s criticism was a result of unease over the party’s growing momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. “It is rather unfortunate that the APC-indoctrinated Abdullahi is apparently unhappy that the PDP is building momentum against the APC,” the statement read.

Emphasizing its position as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the PDP said it would not descend to trading words with the ADC or any other opposition party. Instead, it vowed to continue challenging the APC on national issues and promoting constructive discourse.

The party expressed confidence in its support base, noting that despite recent defections, “Nigerians, who are the real organic strength of the PDP, are still standing shoulder to shoulder with our Party.”

According to the statement, the PDP is home to several credible presidential hopefuls capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election. It also restated its openness to alliances with well-meaning citizens and groups to “rescue the nation from the APC.”

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to reconciliation within the party and the success of its recent 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. It said preparations were in top gear for the party’s National Convention scheduled to hold from November 15 to 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The party concluded by stating that it would not be distracted by what it called “baseless attacks from known agents of the APC.”
