The Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the full reconstruction of the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan road.
The monarch also lauded the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for his role in facilitating the approval.
Speaking on behalf of over 35 traditional rulers in Iwoland, Oba Akanbi expressed appreciation to the president and reaffirmed their support for his reelection bid.
In a statement issued by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the monarch described the approval as a “personal relief,” recalling his past interventions to make the road motorable.
“The Osogbo–Iwo axis of the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan road was abandoned for almost 10 years before my ascension to the throne in 2015. Upon my enthronement, I cleared the bushy sections, mobilised materials, including cement, and rehabilitated the dilapidated road,” he said.
“I used to resume work on the road at 8am and close by 6pm every day. This routine continued for almost four months until the road was reopened. I also intervened on the Iwo–Ibadan road in 2018 when it was nearly impassable.”
Oba Akanbi noted that the Federal Government’s approval represents a dividend of democracy for the people, expressing optimism that more benefits would follow.
He added that the project would enhance economic and commercial activities in Iwoland by improving the movement of goods and services, while also strengthening economic ties between Osun and Oyo states.
